Silent Meditation
Enter with us into the present moment, where we can truly encounter ourselves and where we also open ourselves to God’s presence. Most of the time we are constantly doing something; in meditation we learn simply to be.
Every Thursday, an open group gathers regularly in the premises of the Church of Our Lady of Victory – Infant Jesus of Prague for a shared meditation.
Do not expect any special experiences – that a light will shine, that words will be spoken, or that something extraordinary will happen. However, if you persevere, your life itself will slowly but intensely begin to shine with inner light. Meditation changes our approach to life; we come to know ourselves and others much more deeply and with greater respect. Meditation teaches us to enter into the life-giving and transforming presence of God.
The meeting begins with a short introduction in czech language, followed by half an hour of silent meditation, and ends with space for sharing or questions.
If you would like to join the group, whether once or regularly, you are most welcome.
Meditation starts every Thursday at 6 p.m. The first meditation of this school year will take place on September 4.
Meditation – also called interior, silent, or contemplative prayer – has been inseparably linked to the Carmelite Order since its beginnings, and it has had its place in Christian spirituality in general since the earliest centuries.
“Mental prayer in my opinion is nothing else than an intimate sharing between friends; it means taking time frequently to be alone with Him who we know loves us.” This is how Teresa of Ávila describes prayer in her autobiographical book The Life (8,5), quite possibly inspired by the Old Testament book of Exodus, where it is written: “The Lord used to speak to Moses face to face, as one speaks to a friend.” (Ex 33:11)
